About Us

We work by hand and by ear. Making the soundbox and keybox, truing and dressing the wheel, setting the keys and strings, step by step, listening. It is exacting, patient work, and that is where the difference lies.

We are a small workshop building and restoring hurdy-gurdies by hand. To us a gurdy is more than a wheel and strings: built and set up by hand, the wheel true and the keys set, it sings and, cared for, it lasts for years. That is what our work is about.

We set each gurdy up to sing. The build, the wheel and the keys all matter. We build, set up and advise on what suits the instrument and the player, honestly and without fuss.
